It is important to understand your own and others' natural ways of working

2022-09-08

Founded in 2014, Dista is a pioneer in data-driven outbound sales. We currently employ around 40 people.

Teleworking has challenged the entire Dista. We do hybrid work but we are mostly remote. How do we feed the culture and foster a sense of belonging? How do we recognise situations when someone starts to feel exhausted? Many have also longed for more teamwork and team days.

We played a SmoothTeam simulation with our team of agents. The team is quite new and all my colleagues have joined it at the height of the season.

The simulation increased self-awareness and also brought surprises

Everyone participated in the simulation with a really positive vibe, and found the experience useful and a nice way to team up. The simulation increased self-awareness and also helped them to understand how others see themselves.

The simulation also revealed some surprises. For example, someone had rated themselves as a good listener, but others had a different experience.

Simulation helps to understand different personalities

It is important to understand your own and others' natural ways of doing things. For example, if someone stutters in a change situation, it may not really be stuttering but, for example, slow decision-making. Simulation helps us to realise that we are all different people and that our personalities support each other.

Diversity can also create clashes. For example, my colleague and I found that we are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to risk-taking and the speed of decision-making, for example. When we are such opposites, it can sometimes cause clashes. Once you recognise this, it is easier to understand how the other works. It also helps you learn to adapt the way you communicate.

A simulation made the challenge visible - and we learn to show mercy

The simulation made it clear that many of us are really critical. In our day-to-day work, this is reflected in the fact that we can be demanding about our own and our colleagues' performance. This was a really important observation, and hopefully in the future we will be able to give ourselves and others a bit of grace.

I recommend SmoothTeam to teams who want to develop collaboration and mutual understanding

Our simulation was run by an external SmoothTeam facilitator. He ran the simulation and facilitated in the right way, gave everyone enough time to discuss and took care of the time management. As we are a very talkative and active group, we also needed a little providence. I would recommend SmoothTeam to any team that wants to develop collaboration and understanding.

Team development with a satisfaction guarantee!

All simulations are stand-alone packages for the different needs of the teams. Most of the simulations are based on research, see the simulations page for more information.
