What are SmoothTeam simulations not suitable for?

2022-04-14

SmoothTeam' s simulations are very versatile, and we have a simulation for a wide variety of team situations. However, it is also good to be aware of situations for which our simulations are not designed.

For conflict situations

The simulation is not suitable for a team in crisis, such as bullying or high tensions between people. Our simulations are also not designed to restore lost trust or communication.

In such situations, we recommend using mediation, group counselling or other methods that make the problem visible and support its sensitive handling in the longer term.

For a random group of people

Team members must have an interest in knowing each other. Then the participants are motivated and interested in getting to know each other and having discussions in the simulation. For a team that meets occasionally and stays together for a very short period of time (e.g. a team meeting on a seminar day), the simulation is of little use if the cooperation does not continue afterwards.

Instead, the simulation works well, for example, for project teams working together on a project for a limited period of time. I myself recently took part in a joint project lasting a couple of months, involving participants from six different countries. The SmoothTeam simulation at the beginning of the project effectively teamed up our team.

For teams of more than 16 people

Simulations work best for teams of 4-15 people. At most, there have been twenty participants in a simulation, but in a simulation lasting a couple of hours the mutual acquaintance remains superficial and the quieter ones are easily left out. The size of the group also depends on the group: if the group has a balanced and well-paced way of talking, even a group of sixteen people can still work very well. If the group is more oral or has a more uneven discussion, even twelve participants can be too many.

It is advisable to divide the teams into several groups, which play their own simulations. We can help you think about a suitable split for larger teams.

Different simulations for different situations - choose according to your team

Some of the simulations are quite demanding, others are less demanding. Some focus the discussion on work-related issues, others on more relaxed ones. Different simulations are suitable for different teams and different situations.

Our clients have used simulations as part of a more relaxed team day or to help new recruits settle into their new team and work community. Simulations have helped to develop company culture and wellbeing and improve interactions. Simulations have also sometimes been used as part of a larger development project, for example to highlight what really stresses teams.

We are happy to help you choose a simulation - always feel free to call and send us a message!

Team development with a satisfaction guarantee!

All simulations are stand-alone packages for the different needs of the teams. Most of the simulations are based on research, see the simulations page for more information.
