Pekka Mäki-Kuutti, Granite Devices: the SmoothTeam simulation enabled an open and genuine discussion between the whole team

2021-09-06

Granite Devices is an eSports company based in Tampere, Finland, that produces control solutions for digital car simulators and electric motors. The interest rate pandemic has been a fruitful time for us, as global demand for eSports products has exploded.

Building on strong technological expertise

Our company is built on a strong technological foundation, and over the past year we have added commercial professionals to our engineering team. Teams have been created around the growing staff, each responsible for their own area of responsibility.

The simulation helped us to learn about the strengths of the team and to solve stalemates

From SmoothTeam's wide range of offerings, we found a simulation that suited our situation. In the simulation, we went through the strengths of our team, and through an open discussion we solved various stalemates. The simulation was gamified, which made the exercise even more interesting and effective.

The process worked efficiently

We used an external facilitator to take charge of the simulation so that each of us could immerse ourselves in the discussions.Communication with the facilitator was smooth throughout the process and the facilitator was genuinely interested in our organisation.

The simulation allowed for an open and genuine discussion between the whole team. I got to know my team better, and to understand others' assumptions about my own strengths. As a team, we learned to identify the strengths that unite us, and to understand which tasks are out of someone's comfort zone. The exercise sparked an understanding of the diversity of people and how important it is to consider others.

I recommend SmoothTeam simulation especially for small teams that work closely together and are in the early stages of growth.
