Lahti Sandvik's main product is the hydraulic hammer. I have been with Sandvik for a couple of years and lead a product development team of 11 people. I think Sandvik is a great place to work and a great employer, and I want to put a lot of effort into employee well-being.
How do you get new people on board without meetings?
The interest rate pandemic has been quite a rollercoaster ride, especially during the distance learning period. However, the transition to teleworking was surprisingly easy. The work was done well and a couple of new people joined our team. However, the newcomers had not been able to meet the other team members face to face and felt that they had not yet settled in so well.
My manager had heard about SmoothTeam and urged me to try it. I was immediately attracted to the service; it's not too serious but not a game.
Both those who had been with the team for 30 years and those who had been with the team for six months found it useful
And SmoothTeam worked very well in breaking in new team members. The team also includes people who have worked together for 30 years. They too felt they were learning new things from each other.
I also learned new and surprising things from many of the team members. The self-assessment brought out things that are not visible to the outside world. It's easy to think that someone likes certain kinds of tasks that you have to do repeatedly, even if they don't. I also got a lot of interesting insights into more personal issues.
The debate flowed naturally
The simulation was one of the most natural remote meetings I have ever participated in. Everyone kept the video and microphone open and the conversation flowed well. There were none of the traditional factors that detracted from the atmosphere of a remote meeting.
We combined the simulation with a recreation day. After the simulation we went mountain biking. While cycling, we continued the discussions we had during the simulation.
SmoothTeam is perfect for new and old teams. Next, I plan to use it to introduce a new project team.
